Seminar: Integration of RE population in Montenegro – Local approach, concrete approach

The EU Delegation to Montenegro organized a seminar on key issues and results achieved when it comes to the inclusion of the RE population in Montenegro. The seminar brought together representatives of ministries, as well as relevant domestic and international organizations that are actively dealing with issues of inclusion of members of the RE population.

In the introductory part, the participants were addressed by N.E. Mitja Drobnič, Ambassador of the EU Delegation; Suad Numanović, Minister of Human and Minority Rights; Marta Garcia Fidalgo, Senior Adviser on Roma Policy in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement; as well as Nikola Dedeić, Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare.

Marija Vuksanović, CEDEM project coordinator, participated in the seminar as one of the panelists where she spoke very successfully on the housing conditions of the RE population and presented key recommendations when it comes to this issue. Also, the participants contributed to a constructive discussion on “burning issues” regarding the access of the RE population to social and health care, registration of displaced and internally displaced persons and regulation of their legal status, education and employment of members of the RE population, with special reference to camps Konik I and Konik II.
