Mediation Info Day held

CEDEM organized the first in a series of #InfoDan on alternative ways of resolving disputes, with a special focus on mediation, within the project “Support to Improving the Transparency and Efficiency of the Montenegrin Judiciary” funded by the Ministry of Justice.
In addition to the representatives of CEDEM, the citizens had the opportunity to get additional information directly from the mediator, Mr. Miodrag Novakovic and the representative of the Mediation Center of Montenegro.
CEDEM’s program manager, Ognjen Markovic, said at today’s presentation of the project that the implementation of alternative dispute resolution so far has yielded some results, but requires constant development and monitoring of implementation, given that judicial authorities do not make sufficient use of in alternative ways of resolving disputes and that the public is not sufficiently aware of the advantages of this institute.
This is evidenced by the results of the Mediation Survey conducted by CEDEM in 2013, which indicates that only ¼ citizens know that a dispute can be resolved through mediation, without initiating court proceedings. What CEDEM will be working on over the next 12 months is also reducing the number of cases in the courts, which is one of the strategic goals in this area. ” Markovic concluded.
