Monitoring of the judicial system

The project Monitoring of the Judicial System in Montenegro is being implemented with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro for 18 months starting in February 2011.

The overall goal of this project is to encourage a responsible, professional, efficient and transparent judiciary in Montenegro that will be able to respond to the needs of citizens.

The specific objectives are as follows:

Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to monitor the work of the judiciary and advocate for change;

Influencing public policy in the field of justice and case law, collecting, processing and disseminating reliable information concerning criminal legislation and its implementation, in order to identify areas where reform is needed and to define appropriate recommendations;

To support the transition to the new criminal procedure system introduced by the 2009 Criminal Procedure Code, by analyzing preparations for the implementation of the new CPC and monitoring their implementation in the coming period;

To serve as a platform for the development of cooperation between the Government and civil society in order to support judicial reform.
