Regional Consultations on Transitional Justice for Europe and North America

The representative of CEDEM, Marija Vuksanović, participated in the Regional Conference organized by the Special Rapporteur for the Promotion of Truth, Justice, Reparations and Guarantees of Non-Repetition of Crimes.

The mandate of the Special Rapporteur was established by a resolution of the United Nations Human Rights Council in September 2011, for a period of three years, with the aim of eliminating the consequences of mass violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. So far, three rounds of consultations have been held: for the Middle East and North Africa in November 2012, in Cairo, Egypt; for Latin America and the Caribbean in December 2012 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and for Africa, in November 2013 in Kampala, Uganda.

The fourth round of consultations took place in Berlin on 14 and 15 May and brought together representatives of European and North American countries, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and other relevant United Nations bodies, representatives of the Council of Europe, the EU and the OSCE. , as well as representatives of national institutions for the protection of human rights and non – governmental organizations, including those that bring together representatives of victims of crimes against international humanitarian law. The consultations aimed to contribute to the collection of relevant information on the human rights situation in Europe and North America, including information on the normative frameworks, practices and experiences of these countries related to the promotion of truth, justice, reparations and guarantees of non-recurrence in human rights violations. rights.
