
Round table: Key challenges in the asylum system and irregular migration management
On the occasion of the completion of the project Support to the Montenegrin Asylum and Irregular Migration Management System, supported by the German Embassy in Montenegro, CEDEM and the Civic Alliance organized a round table presentation on the Report on Key Challenges in the Asylum and Irregular Migration Management System.
The report is a key outcome of the project and provides an overview of international standards and domestic legislation and practice in the field of mixed migration management, as well as recommendations aimed at reducing migratory movements towards EU borders and ensuring respect for the rights of asylum seekers.
The round table was organized to mark the International Day of Migrants on December 18, but also the announced opening of negotiating chapters 23 and 24, in order to point out the importance of long-term planning of migration policies and their effective implementation, but also the obligation of the state to manage migration perception. in society and by providing protection to migrants in accordance with international human rights standards. The participants of the round table assessed that further building of the legal framework in accordance with EU standards, strengthening the capacity of institutions and establishing a permanent system of coordination in the implementation of migration policies, are key priorities of Montenegro in this area.
