Training for employees of the Ombudsperson Institution was held

As part of the project “Strengthening the Institutional Capacities of the Ombudsman for Supervision of the Security Sector”, CEDEM organized the first of three trainings for employees of this institution on February 1 and 2 at the Palace Hotel in Petrovac. The main goal is to strengthen the Ombudsman’s capacity to oversee the security sector.

Introductory speeches were given by the representative of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Montenegro, Uwe Meerkoetter, Director of CEDEM, Milena Bešić, as well as Legal Adviser of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Croatia, Igor Lekić.

During the first day of the training, Mr. Igor Lekić spoke about the competencies, functions and importance of the Ombudsman Institution in the modern world, democratic oversight of security sector institutions through the example of the Republic of Croatia, and how full membership of the Republic of Croatia this country.

The second day of the training was opened by the project coordinator, Dijana Delić, together with another lecturer – Ms. Valentina Pavličić, Representative of Montenegro before the European Court of Human Rights. All three sessions were dedicated to secret surveillance measures – the emergence, the history of the establishment of MTN in the judicial system of Montenegro, as well as the standards and case law of the European Court of Human Rights.
