The Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM) organized a conference “Refugee Crisis in the European Union and the Region: EU Plan, Government Strategies and Civil Society Responses” at the Ramada Hotel on October 28.

This conference is the final activity of the project “Capacity Building for Strengthening the Montenegrin Asylum System and Migration Management” which aims to contribute to the development of integration policies of Montenegro and the system of social inclusion of asylum seekers and immigrants. The project is being implemented with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Belgrade, in partnership with the Dutch Refugee Center. The conference gathered about 50 representatives of state institutions responsible for dealing with asylum seekers and refugees, domestic legal experts, representatives of Dutch and regional partners, the media and international and domestic NGOs in Montenegro. The conference aimed to stimulate debate on the main advantages and challenges of the legal and institutional framework of asylum and migration policy in Montenegro, new plans of the European Union, but also on the responses of the Western Balkans and the contributions of civil society in this regard.
