Basic study on the degree of integration and engagement of the new EU member states in the policy-making process at the EU level

Within the PASOS project, Enlargement and Citizenship – Looking to the Future, Center for Public Policy PROVIDUS, Latvia (author Iveta Kažoka, senior political analyst) prepared a Basic Study on the degree of integration and engagement of new EU member states in EU policy-making.

The study shows that the new EU member states are more optimistic than the EU, while the old member states are more engaged in terms of developments in the EU. The study also shows that the citizens of Bulgaria and Poland believe that they have benefited the most from the accession of these countries to EU membership, while the representatives of the new member states are considered more active, with more enthusiasm and a clearer perspective. A more extensive, in-depth comparative study will be conducted by March 30, 2014.

CEDEM is implementing the project as one of the partner organizations, together with the Institute of Public Affairs from Poland, the Center for Public Policy PROVIDUS from Latvia, the European Institute from Bulgaria and the Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies from Belgrade. PASOS from the Czech Republic is the main coordinator of the project, which is being implemented with the support of the European Commission, through the program “Europe for Citizens”.
