The training was intended for representatives of the media and the civil sector, who recognized its importance and responded in significant numbers.

The training is part of the project “Strengthening the role of the media in improving criminal justice in Montenegro” funded through the European Union’s Media Professionalization Program. The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the media in Montenegro to report on criminal justice, by increasing the quality and credibility of investigative journalism in accordance with European Union and Council of Europe standards, as well as the Code of Journalists of Montenegro.

Lecturers were Majd Khalifeh, media expert and journalist of the Belgian national TV VRT, and Elina Makri, award-winning journalist and founder of Oikomedia.

During the first day of the training, journalists were introduced to user-generated content on real stories from Montenegro, the region and Europe, with an emphasis on its verification. Special attention was paid to content monitoring, ie the best tools and methods for monitoring social media. Journalists were given the opportunity to use their smartphones in full capacity, and for the purpose of their work. They significantly contributed to the great atmosphere and great discussion.

The second day of the training was focused on compliance with the Code of Ethics and its analysis during the publication of breaking news, as well as additional methods of monitoring the content.
