The second training for employees of the Ombudsperson Institution was held

As part of the project “Strengthening the Institutional Capacities of the Ombudsman for Supervision of the Security Sector”, CEDEM organized the second of three trainings for employees of the Ombudsman Institution on March 26 and 27 at the Adria Hotel in Budva. The main goal is to strengthen the Ombudsman’s capacity to oversee the security sector.

Introductory speeches were given by the project coordinator, Diana Delic, then the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Aco Martinovic, as well as the professor of the Faculty of Law at the University of Montenegro, Drazen Cerovic.

During the first day of the training, Mr. Cerović spoke about the relationship between the Ombudsman Institution and the security services, as well as the powers of this institution in relation to persons deprived of their liberty and excessive use of force by the police. Mr. Martinović spoke about the organization of police work and their cooperation with the Ombudsman Institution.

During the second day of the training, Mr. Martinović spoke about the supervision of the work of the police from the practice of the Republic of Croatia and recommendations for eliminating deficiencies and irregularities in the work of the Ministry of the Interior. At the very end, Mr. Cerović concluded the training with a topic concerning the cooperation between the Ombudsman and the media, and the importance it has in the modern world.
