The second working meeting within the project “Strengthening the role of the media in improving criminal justice in Montenegro” was held.
The Center for Democracy and Human Rights held its second working meeting within the project “Strengthening the Role of the Media in Improving Criminal Justice in Montenegro”. The meeting was held on October 27, 2017, in Ulcinj.
The working meeting was attended by Ms. Feriha Muratović, Head of the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Ulcinj, and Ms. Hasira Bećović, PR of the Basic Court in Ulcinj. Representatives of the network – TV Teuta, TV Vijesti, radio Ulcinj, portal UL-info, as well as a representative of the organization MogUL were present in front of the media.
It was assessed that this type of meeting is more than necessary, having in mind the interest of citizens in the work and competencies of judicial institutions at the local level, but still the opinion that they are closed to the public. With the adoption of legal acts on the Basic Court and the State Prosecutor’s Office, since 2015, the openness of judicial institutions has significantly improved. However, it was concluded that there is still a lot of room for improvement due to the lack of initiatives on both sides.
Several proposals have been proposed, which will be translated into initiatives and actions addressed to judicial institutions, in which CEDEM will act as a mediator, resulting in better media reporting, as well as accurate and timely information to citizens.
