A living library – Connecting through constant dialogue
Yesterday, July 17, a living library, an interactive activity aimed at enabling the meeting and exchange of experiences between young representatives of various minority nations and national communities in Montenegro and the majority population. This activity is part of the project “Perspectives of Diversity: Strengthening the Protection of Minority Rights in Montenegro” implemented by CEDEM with the financial support of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights of Montenegro.
The living library represents an innovative approach to interpersonal relations and the fight against prejudice, enabling a direct dialogue between “living books” and “readers”. Today’s event was attended by five “living books” and fifteen “readers” who, through open conversations and asking questions, learned more about the experiences and challenges faced by members of minority communities. “Living books” that come from minority communities, which are distinguished not only by different ethnic affiliations, but also by belonging to the LGBTIQ+ and PWD community.
This activity aims to contribute to better understanding and inclusion, as well as to empower young people from minority communities to share their stories and perspectives. Through direct communication and exchange of experiences, the participants had the opportunity to reconsider their attitudes and develop a deeper understanding of interpersonal relationships in a multicultural society.
The living library once again showed its value as a tool for promoting tolerance, mutual respect and common coexistence.
“This event represents only one of the steps towards building a more inclusive society in Montenegro, and we hope that such activities will become a regular practice in the future”, added Nevenka Vuksanović, director of CEDEM.
