The third session of the “Women’s Parliament” was held
Today, the Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Zeljko Sturanovic, opened the third session of the “Women’s Parliament”, where members of the Government of Montenegro answered questions from participants, representatives of women’s groups of parliamentary parties and civil society.
Opening the session of the Women’s Parliament, the Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Zeljko Sturanovic, pointed out that Montenegro, opting for the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as a framework for overall democratic and economic development of the country, takes necessary measures to achieve equality between women and men. and thus achieved political, economic, social and cultural development.
In her introductory speech, the President of the Committee for Gender Equality, Nada Drobnjak, said, among other things, that a lot has been done in Montenegro in the past period to complete the legislative framework that guarantees equal chances and opportunities for both sexes. However, in practice we still encounter the traditional understanding of the position and role of women in the family and society. She assessed that in the years behind us, significant activities were carried out in the field of combating violence against women, strengthening women’s participation in public and political life, strengthening mechanisms at the local level, encouraging women’s entrepreneurship, initiating activities to improve the position of rural women. women from the Roma and Egyptian populations, as well as strengthening the participation of men in family responsibilities, concluding that a lot of work must be done on the adequate application of the adopted legal forms.
Representatives of the Government of Montenegro answered 22 questions from representatives of women’s groups of parliamentary parties, as well as representatives of civil society.
The “Women’s Parliament” was organized by the Committee on Gender Equality, on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day, with the aim of promoting women’s human rights in Montenegro. The session was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and local self-government. Before the beginning of the session, the president of the Committee for Gender Equality, Nada Drobnjak, opened the exhibition of personal works of children with intellectual disabilities “The Way of Love”.
